How to improve the interface of Google Play Music on Android «Android :: Gadget Hacks

Google Play Music is a great app, even if you don’t subscribe to $ 9.99 / month All access service, you can still use it to store and stream up to 50,000 of your own songs for free. Add to that the fact that this is a preinstalled app on most Android devices, and there isn’t much reason not to use it. Play music.

But the interface has a few annoyances here and there, like cropped album artwork and side navigation bar entries whose sole purpose is to sell you an All Access membership. So if you’ve been annoyed by these little quirks, the developer Maxr1998the last Xposé module is in your alley.

Step 1: Download XGPM

To get started, head to the To download section of your Xposed Installer app and search XGPM, then tap the first result.

From there, swipe to the Versions tab, then tap the “Download” button next to the most recent entry.

Within seconds, the Android installation menu should appear, so tap “Install” on that screen.

When this is complete, you will receive a notification from Xposed informing you that the add-on has not yet been activated and that a restart is required. Just hit the “Activate and Restart” button on that notification, and Xposed will take care of the rest for you.

Step 2: Adjust the interface of Play Music

When you get up, open the XGPM app which you will now find in your app drawer.

From there, there are two sets of options. The first set lets you hide items from the Play Music side navigation menu, and the second set lets you change the “Now Playing” interface. Check the boxes next to the items you want to change, but note that the “Remove Drop Shadow” entry requires a restart and the “Tint icons with color taken from album artwork” option may take some time to start.

Step 3: Reboot to see all your changes

If Play Music is running since installing this add-on, some features may not work without restart. So turn your device off and on again, then all your settings should be active.

The side navigation menu should now be significantly reduced, depending on the options you selected in step 2. The All Access upsell entries can finally be removed.

(1) Before, (2) After

If you have chosen to change the “Now Playing” screen, your changes will be visible when you listen to music. The album cover is no longer cropped and the buttons can be matched to the color of the album cover of the current song.

(1) Before (cropped illustration with orange buttons), (2) After (no cropping; color-matched buttons)
