Spotify is testing new subscription level of 99
Spotify is looking for a new 99 ¢ subscription that still includes ads but allows users unlimited skips and on-demand listening. According to The Verge, the new level combines elements of its free and premium options, and it “places no limit on the number of tracks you can skip per hour. Users are also free to choose the specific songs they want to listen to, rather than being limited mainly to shuffling albums and playlists.
Spotify’s current free tier doesn’t allow users to skip more than six tracks per hour, and only lets you listen to certain tracks from 15 selected playlists. “Outside of these playlists, free users can only listen to mixed tracks.”
The new tier would give users the ability to choose their own songs for less than a pound per month, although they would still receive additional ads. There is no word on other options like better listening. Spotify confirmed to The Verge that they are testing the new tier and that neither the price nor the features are finalized.
